Our Community Need
Every two years, the Salt Lake City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® conducts a Community Profile, which is a needs assessment of the community we serve. This allows us to make informed decisions about the best use of resources and how we can make the greatest impact. Our affiliate uses the information in the Community Profile to award local grants for education, screening and treatment programs in the Salt Lake, Davis, Weber and Utah counties.
In 2011, we found that Utah has one of the lowest mammography rates in the U.S. Not surprisingly, women who are uninsured or underinsured are less likely to go for screenings and we found that awareness of programs that offer free screenings was very low as well. In our grant cycle for 2011-2012, we were able to grant $735k to fund local programs.
