General INformation  

The 13th annual Komen Salt Lake City Race for the Cure will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at The Gateway Mall at South Temple & 400 West in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The 5K (3.1 miles) run and walk and the 1 mile fun run/walk will start at 8:30am at a new start line.  Both events will start on 300 W & North Temple heading north, and coming back to end near the Gateway Legacy Fountain.

There will be no timed events this year.  A timing clock will be set up at the start and the finish for participants interested in timing themselves.

Please come join us in the fight against breast cancer on Saturday, May 9th!

7:00 am: Race Day Registration
8:15 am: Fitness Warm-Up at the start line
8:30 am: 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Walk/Run Start
9:45 am: Awards/Sponsors/Survivor Parade and Recognition

Race Course  

We have a new start line this year!  All runners and walkers will start near The Gateway on 300 West & North Temple heading north and ending at the Gateway Legacy Fountain.  Water and aid stations will be available at the start and finish and at the 1.5 mile marker.  Porta-potties will be available.

Parking and Transportation  

We encourage you to take Trax!  The UTA Trax Arena Station is adjacent to The Gateway. For UTA route and schedule information call 743-3882 or visit http://www.rideuta.com/.  Downtown Salt Lake City has numerous parking options with its more than 27,000 parking stalls, a mix of pay lots, street meters and public parking garages.  There will be free underground parking at The Gateway until noon. 

Restroom Facilities  

There will be several porta-potties along 400 West, north of The Gateway and at the start line.  There are also restroom facilities at The Gateway.

Race Timing  

There will be no official timing for the 2009 Salt Lake City Race for the Cure.

Awards  

Immediately following the Race, we will recognize the following overall winners at the Main Stage:

Individual Runner Survivor Awards:  Top three female and male breast cancer survivors will receive awards.

Top Individual Fundaiser Prize:  The top fundraiser (age 18 and over) will receive one roundtrip air transportation on American Airlines or American Eagle to any destination in the contiguous U.S.  Limit (1) ticket per household.

Top Team Fundraising Awards:  Awards wll be given to the top three fundraising teams.  Raise the most pledges with your team and be eligible to win a top fundraising award.

THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING ALL PLEDGES TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE TOP FUNDRAISING PRIZE IS MAY 5, 2009.

Safety Regulations  

For Safety's Sake and for the safety of all participants, inline skates and pets are discouraged from participating in this event. Strollers will be required to line up at the rear as a safety measure insuring that the children don't get trampled by the herd of over 17,000 participants. Thank you for your cooperation.

Merchandise Sales  

Susan G. Komen for the Cure® merchandise such as pins, jewelry, t-shirts, tote bags, ball caps, kid's t-shirts, fans, socks, window clings, key chains and luggage tags will be available for purchase on race day and at the Health Expo.

T-Shirt mailing  

New this year!  Have your t-shirt and bib mailed to you for an additional $5.00!  Preregistration online or by mail must be postmarked by April 20th to have your Race t-shirt and bib mailed.
